Urban’s president, Edward M. D’Alba, PE, named Engineer of the Year by the Delaware Valley Engineer’s Week Council
At the helm of Urban Engineers, Inc. is the newly recognized Engineer of the Year. Edward M. D'Alba, PE earned accolades from many of his clients and peers who serve on the Delaware Valley Engineer's Week Council and was named the Council’s Engineer of the Year for 2002.
D'Alba progressed through the ranks of Urban to project manager, branch manager, vice president, and in 1993, president and chief executive officer. He holds a master’s degree in Civil and Urban Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. D'Alba is a registered professional engineer in five states and a registered professional land surveyor in Pennsylvania.
“As engineers,” D’Alba enthusiastically explains, “we are fortunate to be given the opportunity to influence the built environment and improve how we live, work, commute and play.” An advocate of civic and community involvement, he believes that, “our profession has earned the public’s trust and respect for our abilities to solve problems, but we need to improve how we express our ideas and thoughts, to keep our place at the table when programs for quality of life are defined.”
Active in professional and civic associations, D’Alba has served as Chairman of the Philadelphia School District Transportation, Engineering, and Stakeholders Partnership; Chairman of the March of Dimes Transportation, Building and Construction Committee; President of the Philadelphia Chapter of American Society of Highway Engineers; Board member of the Pennsylvania Consulting Engineers Council and President of the Philadelphia Chapter. He is currently Chairman of the PENNJERDEL Council and serves on the executive committee of the Central Philadelphia Development Council.
