The American Society of Civil Engineers has named Urban as a recipient of the 2002 Employer Recognition Award for encouragement and exemplary support of younger members involved in ASCE activities.
The ASCE defines exemplary support as:
- Providing a model for involvement through company-wide participation in local, regional, and national ASCE activities.
- Allowing young engineers time off to attend ASCE meetings and seminars
- Supporting and encouraging technical and professional growth
- Encouraging young engineers to prepare articles for publication in ASCE professional and technical journals
- Assisting in the payment of local and national dues
Urban provides 100 percent reimbursement for local and national dues, underwrites subscriptions to ASCE technical and professional journal, and pays graduate school fees. The firm offers numerous Brown Bag seminars sponsored by various Urban operating departments where new and innovative concepts are shared. Urban invites the ASCE Younger Member Forum to use its facilities for staff meetings and provides refreshments to the attendees.
