Urban, under contract to Dominion, a Richmond, VA-based energy producer, is participating in the construction of a combined cycle electric power plant in Morrisville, PA at the former USX Fairless Works facility. General Electric is providing the gas and steam turbines that will generate 1200 megawatts of electricity for sale into competitive wholesale energy markets.
Construction of the $800 million facility began in December 2001. Urban is providing special inspection services for six buildings on the site, as required by the BOCA building code. In this role, Urban has been engaged to inspect the structural steel, cold-formed steel framing and masonry construction, and provide reports and documentation to both Dominion and Falls Township. Plant completion is scheduled for the first half of 2004.
