US 202 reconstruction wins excellence award

The Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) selected the Congestion Management Strategy for the US 202 Section 400 reconstruction project for its 2002 Award of Excellence. The Greater Valley Forge Transportation Management Association (GVFTMA) submitted the project and the award was given to GVFTMA, PENNDOT, the TMA of Chester County, Delaware County TMA, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.

As part of the ACT’s 2002 conference in Philadelphia, Urban’s Al Alberts led a tour of the construction and conducted an overview while driving through the construction zone. Later, in PENNDOT’s District 6-0 office, Al, who is project manager for Urban’s efforts, gave a presentation on the history of the project and its current status.

Urban is providing construction management services to assist PENNDOT in managing this multi-project contract involving the widening and reconstruction of five miles of US 202 from four to six lanes and new ramps at Interstate 76, US 422, and the Chesterbrook interchanges. It is one of the most complex highway programs undertaken in southeastern Pennsylvania in recent years.
