Urban completes work for FTA on the Trinity Railway Express
As part of its Project Management Oversight (PMO) contract for the Federal Transit Administration, Urban recently completed work for the Trinity Railway Express, the first commuter rail service in the Southwest U.S. This effort, to provide a passenger rail link between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, involved several Urban practices (rail, transit, bridge, environmental, and planning). Each provided input on various aspects of management oversight during planning, design, construction management, railroad operations, start-up services and regulatory compliance for the 10 year, $185 million project.
Urban has been requested to prepare a "Lessons Learned" paper on the project as well as a final report to the U.S. Congress. According to Urban's Project Manager, Carl Morey, "The success of the project will likely generate numerous additional assignments for Urban nation-wide."
The Trinity Railway Express was cited by the American Public Transit Association as a model for the future development of U.S. commuter rail systems. The Urban Team received excellent reviews from the FTA for its work on the project and favorable comments from U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas) and Congressman Dick Armey (Texas).
