Terminal A West at PHL is Outstanding Engineering Achievement of the Year
The Delaware Valley Engineer's Week Council named Philadelphia International Airport's new international terminal, Terminal A West, as its Outstanding Engineering Achievement of the Year. Urban, working with architect Kohn Pederson Fox Associates of New York, was responsible for civil/site, structural, geotechnical, environmental, electrical, highway and traffic engineering aspects of the project.

One of the main challenges that Urban faced was to fit the 800,000 square foot terminal with 13 passenger gates in a 65-acre site. This was accomplished through an on-going dialogue between the architect, the City's Division of Aviation, and Urban. Urban's knowledge of the airport and FAA regulations were decisive elements in siting the terminal. Working closely with the architect, Urban fixed a ground floor elevation to accommodate landside and airside design criteria. Urban prepared zoning and land development plans for Tinicum Township's approval and wetland mitigation plans for approval by PADEP.

Another Urban project, Lincoln Financial Field, the new home of the National Football League's Philadelphia Eagles, was given a notable achievement award, the second highest honor. Urban served as program manager for the $520 million project.
