Urban wins "Outstanding Project of the Year" award for U.S. 202 reconstruction

The Reconstruction of U.S. Route 202 was awarded the coveted “Outstanding Project of the Year Award” at the annual Delaware Valley Engineers Week Council Awards Competition. Urban was the construction manager for the $285 million U.S. Route 202 Section 400 Improvement Project in the King of Prussia, PA area; a five-mile section of the highway that extends from the Swedesford/Howellville Road interchange in Tredyffrin Township (Chester County) to the Gulph Road intersection in Upper Merion Township (Montgomery County). Conducted under the auspices of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s District 6-0, the project involved the widening and reconstruction of the highway’s mainline and extensive improvements to several interchanges.

The reconstruction of U.S. Route 202 in the King of Prussia area was of critical importance to the Delaware Valley in light of its significance for business, commerce, and economic development. The new Route 202 has:

Improved traffic capacity
Eliminated traffic weaves
Reduced travel times
Reduced air pollution
Increased safety
Lowered cost to commuters by reducing the wear and tear on vehicles
Improved the overall economic vitality of the region
Accomplished improvements without significant impact to expensive adjacent development and
with minimal impact to the environment

This award marks the fourth time in the last five years that Urban has won the “Outstanding Project of the Year.”
