William T. Thomsen, PE has been promoted to senior vice president at Urban Engineers, Inc. As senior vice president, he will continue in his role as director of Urban’s Project Management Oversight (PMO) practice and will assume executive oversight of all company engineering services in New York. Thomsen has 24 years of progressive experience as a consulting engineer specializing in the planning, design, construction, and oversight of rail transportation projects.

Under Thomsen’s direction, program management has grown into a national practice, with assignments in such states as California, Texas, Florida, Nevada, Ohio, Colorado, Michigan, and Utah. Most recently, Urban was awarded a PMO contract from the Federal Transit Administration to oversee all transit projects in New York City above lower Manhattan.

A registered professional engineer in six states, Thomsen holds a master’s degree in Engineering Management from Drexel University and a bachelor’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Clarkson College of Technology.

A resident of Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Thomsen is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Public Transit Association. He is a past president of ASCE’s Philadelphia Section, and in 1993, he was named the ASCE’s Transportation Engineer of the Year.
