Fluor Daniels passes baton to Urban in New York City

Fluor Daniels, part of the giant Fluor Corporation, one of the world's largest publicly-owned engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance services organizations, has transferred its New York City Project Management Oversight (PMO) assignment to Urban Engineers, Inc. Fluor, which held the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) assignment for the past 15 years, will now oversee all FTA-funded projects in Lower Manhattan. Urban will now assume PMO responsibilities on all FTA Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) projects beyond Lower Manhattan. The program includes Long Island Rail Road projects as well as New York City Department of Transportation projects that are federally-funded.

Over the past 15 years, Urban has provided project management, project administration, technical support, and subconsultant management to the FTA for nationwide assignments involving new and expanded transit systems. Urban’s assignments have involved major capital improvement programs for such agencies as the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Fort Lauderdale’s Tri-County Commuter Rail Authority (Tri-Rail), Miami’s Metro-Dade Transit Agency (MDTA), Orlando’s Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX), Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA), Fort Worth Transportation Authority (FWTA), Maryland Transportation Authority (MTA), Denver Regional Transit District, (RTD), Las Vegas Regional Transportation Commission, and others.

The Urban PMO Team met with Fluor, the FTA Region II staff, and senior staff from the MTA and the New York City Transit Authority to effectuate the transfer. Rick Rye, Fluor’s program manager, noted that "Urban Engineers . . . has some very fine, experienced and highly qualified people who are more than able to assume this assignment."
