Urban to design Pennsylvania Turnpike widening

September 2004

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission selected an Urban led team to prepare preliminary designs and environmental documents for the widening and reconstruction of the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-476) from the Mid-County Interchange to the Lansdale Interchange.

Preliminary designs will include the development of the most feasible alternative for widening and reconstructing the mainline of the Turnpike from four to six lanes, widening the existing median from four feet to 26 feet, replacing the mainline and overhead bridges, adjusting the side roads to accommodate the bridge replacements, extending the existing culverts, constructing new retaining walls and noise walls, and other work associated with the widening including the preparation of environmental documents.

The estimated $180 million construction project is projected to be completed in 2010.
