Urban wins two ASHE Project of the Year Awards

Urban Engineers is the proud recipient of two Project of the Year Awards from the American Society of Highway Engineers - Delaware Valley Section. The first award, for projects over $5 million, is for the Rehabilitation of the New Hope-Lambertville Toll-Supported Bridge.

Originally constructed in 1904, the six-span, 1,053 foot-long bridge from New Hope, PA to Lambertville, NJ was rehabilitated, cleaned and painted to maintain the life of the span. Included was a new floor system and sidewalk, new steel members, blast-cleaning and painting, and lighting upgrades. In order for the bridge to be open to weekend vehicular and pedestrian traffic, scheduling was a critical aspect.

The second award, for projects under $5 million, is for the Benjamin Franklin Parkway Lighting and Road Improvements. Pedestrian and roadway lighting was improved along the entire length of the Parkway. The project installed 132 roadway-scale lights and 226 pedestrian-scale lights. The lights were designed to blend architecturally with the area while improving illumination on roadways and sidewalks. The second part of the project involved traffic calming measures at Logan Circle, which involved the installation of traffic signals, island reconfiguration, curb cut ramps, new sidewalk and sidewalk treatments, roadway narrowing, drainage, plantings, special events infrastructure, and statue illumination.
