The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Construction Management Association of America gave its 2006 Project of the Year Award for Public Projects under $10 million to Urban Engineers, Inc. (Urban) for our role in the Construction of Taxiway P at Atlantic City International Airport (ACY). This project will be recognized at an awards banquet on May 1, 2006 at the Dupont Country Club in Wilmington, DE.
More than a million passengers passed through ACY in 2004, and based on the airport’s Master Plan, this number is expected to increase dramatically by 2020. The South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) adopted a proactive approach toward phased expansion. The construction of Taxiway P, and its adjacent 1000-car capacity parking lot, is part of an $8.5 million reorganization of the airside traffic pattern.
Urban’s construction management team provided close coordination, schedule monitoring, and open end functional communication with all stakeholders. Taxiway P was constructed under budget and on schedule while maintaining aircraft traffic and protecting environmental conditions. “Urban’s management approach on this important project mitigated numerous construction and schedule impacts,” said Samuel Donelson P.E., Chief Engineer at Atlantic City International Airport.
