IEEE Engineering Management Society meets in NYC Office

Urban Engineers of New York hosted the January 2006 meeting of the New York Section Engineering Management Society, part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Included was a presentation by Mewburn Humphrey, PE, PhD, the quality assurance manager for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, assigned to the World Trade Center Downtown Restoration Program, a federally-funded project. Dr. Humphrey discussed the challenges of following guidelines and procedures to establish and maintain a QA/QC program for a mega project and the processes that must be undertaken to satisfy the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) requirements. This is the first time that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has been required to follow FTA requirements.

In recognition of his efforts, Dr. Humphrey was presented with an award of appreciation from Urban’s Marty Izaak, chairman of the Engineering Management Society - New York Section of the IEEE and Vic Simouli, vice chairman.
