Steele Structural Engineers, an Erie, Pennsylvania-based firm, and its founder David A. Steele, PE, have recently joined Urban Engineers, bringing an impressive collection of project experience. A structural engineer for more than 17 years, Steele managed Steele Structural Engineering and was responsible for defining the company’s focus, directing staff, and serving as point of contact for clients and design teams.
Since its founding in 1994, Steele Structural Engineering designed several marquee projects that included:
- First Alliance Church, a 21,500 square foot, 950-seat multi-level sanctuary space, which was the first-place recipient of the Steel Joist Institute’s 2000 National Design Award for Non-Industrial projects;
- Erie Western Pennsylvania Port Authority Cruise Boats Terminal Building, received the prestigious American Institute of Steel Construction Merit Award in the 2003 Engineering Awards of Excellence for its curved, architecturally exposed, modular roof frame;
- Nazareth Area High School, designed structure for new stage/auditorium, new classrooms and renovations to existing building;
- Penn State University - Research & Economic Development Center, (Erie) a 150,000 square foot building that will house the schools of business and engineering; and
- Splash Lagoon Indoor Waterpark, at 77,000 square feet, is one of the largest indoor waterparks in the country.
Steele will oversee Urban’s structural/building practice.
