Urban of Erie honored for Bayfront Connector Highway

Named winner of the Civil Engineering Achievement Award by the Pittsburgh Section
American Society of Civil Engineers, and the 2005 Transportation Project of the Year by the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania, the Bayfront Connector Highway in Erie, Pennsylvania incorporates several unique elements including a parallel bikeway/walkway, extensive landscaping, wetlands mitigation, a pedestrian overpass bridge, anti-graffiti coatings, and other Context Sensitive Design features. The highway has been spurring urban revitalization and economic growth as a result of its development.

Urban of Erie was one of several firms responsible for the design of the $109.7 million, 6.57 mile-long, four-lane divided highway, which was opened to traffic in June 2005.

Urban of Erie also performed construction inspection services for a majority of the Bayfront Connector during its seven-year construction period.
