Citywide Master Plan Wins ACEC Award

Hartford’s Citywide Traffic Calming Master Plan can officially be called an award winner.

The American Council of Engineering Companies/Connecticut selected the Master Plan to receive a 2007 ACEC/CT Engineering Excellence Award.  It was one of four projects chosen, making it eligible for entry into the national ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Competition.

After working with neighborhood stakeholders to define the nature and extent of traffic-related problems, Urban developed a traffic calming master plan that was implemented in all of the City’s residential neighborhoods.

The project objectives included developing techniques to slow traffic and discourage drivers from cutting through residential areas.  The project also focused on improving access for  pedestrians and bicycles and on making street crossings safer so that the overall quality of life of Hartford’s residents could be improved.
