Urban Wins Major PA Turnpike Contract

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission awarded an Urban-led Team the Construction Management Services Contract for the I-95/I-276 Connection Project, which is estimated to cost more than $650 million.

One of the most challenging infrastructure projects undertaken in the region, this interchange project will directly connect the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-95, thus making I-95 continuous throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region. It is also anticipated that the project will have significant positive impacts on the area’s economy, tourism, and quality of life. The main goals of the project are to: Provide a direct linkage between the Turnpike and I-95 for easier interstate travel;Complete I-95 through the Mid-Atlantic Region; Reduce the amount of traffic on local roads utilized to make the connection between I-95 and the Turnpike; Increase the capacity on the Turnpike and I-95 to accommodate the transfer of traffic from local roads to the interstates; and Improve travel time by reducing traffic delays. This project is anticipated to be constructed during the next 10 years with as many as 15 individual contracts. Construction of the first phase is expected to begin in Spring 2007.
