American Council of Engineering Companies of PA. Recognizes Urban Diamond Award Projects

Urban’s SR 0162, Section EMG, Bridge Replacement Over Broad Run Project received a 2007 Diamond Award Certificate from the American Council of Engineering Companies. Urban’s work on this PENNDOT project, was recognized at ACEC/PA’s 2007 Diamond Awards banquet in February was located in Chester County, District 6-0. The three-year, $1.25 million project involved the preliminary and final design of a replacement bridge. Environmental issues, such as wetlands, threatened and endangered species, an Exceptional Value Stream with a wild brown trout population, and conflicting interests made coordination with agencies a challenge.

Urban's Brownfield Site Characterization and Tank Decommissioning Project also received a Diamond Award Certificate. This City of Philadelphia project, located near the City’s Grays Ferry section, was the first application of the Triad Approach in the Environmental Protection Agency Region III’s Brownfield Program. This approach, which seeks to manage decision uncertainty by incorporating systematic project planning, dynamic work plan strategies, and real-time measurement technologies into the work approach, is being promoted by EPA and other state agencies nationwide. Urban’s successful and innovative work laid the foundation for site cleanup and allowed the City to move forward on site purchase, remediation, and redevelopment.
