The historic Aviator Park, located at Logan Square in Philadelphia’s Center City section, celebrated its re-opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by state and local officials and community leaders.
Urban provided the project’s civil and structural engineering services for Philadelphia’s Center City District. The project added more green space, new signs, paved paths, benches, and lighting for improved settings for major sculptures.
The redesign featured new landscaping and hardscaping, including paving, lighting and irrigation. Urban was responsible for the development of construction plans; and specifications and estimates.
The historic nature of the park is acknowledged through the new design. It is now visually connected to the other public spaces at Logan Square. The improvements also offer a more suitable setting for the park’s prominent war monuments: the Aero Memorial (1948) and the All Wars Memorial to Colored Soldiers and Sailors (1934).
