Urban Retained for Sidewalk Project Near Historic Curtis Center |
Urban has been retained for sidewalk design and streetscape improvements surrounding the Curtis Center, a famous high-rise building in Center City’s historic district, just across the street from Urban’s Philadelphia headquarters.
Decorative sidewalk treatment, specially scored and colored, different than typical granite paving, makes this project unique. Sidewalk replacement will occur on 6th Street from Chestnut to Walnut Street; on Walnut Street from 6th to 7th Street; on 7th Street from Walnut to Chestnut Street; and on Sansom Street.
The Curtis Center overlooks two major Center City parks: Independence Mall (across 6th Street to the east) and Washington Square (across Walnut Street to the south). It is home to well-established firms, restaurants, shops, an indoor parking garage, a health club, and a child care center. The Center is named for the former Curtis Publishing Company, which produced the Saturday Evening Post, Ladies’ Home Journal, and other noted magazines.
