At ACEC/NJ’s awards banquet on March 15th, two Urban projects were recognized. Urban’s Long Bank Bridge Replacement Project received an Engineering Excellence Award. The project involved the construction of a new pre-cast concrete arch bridge on the existing roadway alignment. Urban provided engineering investigations and condition evaluations of the project site; alternative structural, highway, and geotechnical design studies; constructability analyses for the most favorable alternative; environmental studies, and construction inspection services.
An ACEC/NJ Engineering Excellence Award was also given to Urban’s Perth Amboy Bridge Project. The project involved the relocation of ½ mile of Conrail branch line track for the City of Perth Amboy, NJ. Urban provided geotechnical engineering services, administered the subsurface exploration program, developed supplementary and bridge specifications for the project, and was responsible for construction management including shop drawing review. Provisions for future jacking of the superstructure forbearing maintenance/replacement and for additional ballast to accommodate future re-profiling of the Conrail track are among the project’s various creative engineering concepts that were utilized.
