St. Hedwig School Wins Urban-Sponsored Award at Future City Competition

The Urban-sponsored award for “Superior Communication” was won by St. Hedwig School, Wilmington, DE.  This is the fifth year Urban has sponsored a special award at the Future City Competition.

The January 2007 competition at Villanova University involved teams of seventh and eighth graders working with teachers and mentors to design a city of the future using Maxis SimCity3000 software, build a working model of a portion of their city using recycled products, write an essay about city planning and design issues, and verbally present their city to a panel of judges from the engineering, planning, and architectural communities.

Urban’s Christine Char was the judge for the firm’s award.  Additional Urban employees who assisted with the annual Future City Competition are Susan Best (Judging Coordinator), Brian Stover (Sponsorships and Preliminary Judge), Mike McAtee (Publications and Preliminary Judge), Karen Toner (Essay Judge), and Jay Yantosh (Mentor for Cedarbrook Middle School).

Urban plans on hosting the members of St. Hedwig School’s team to inform the students of the many interesting tasks engineers perform.
