Urban Wins ACEC/PA Award

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA) selected an Urban project as one of its 2008 Diamond Awards for Engineering Excellence.

Recognized in the Transportation Category, Urban was selected for its role as Project Designer to Improve Runway Safety Area and Install Runway 8 MALSR (Medium Approach Lighting System) at Capital City Airport.

Capital City Airport is a general aviation airport serving the Harrisburg area. The principal runway was equipped with an instrument landing system that allowed aircraft to land in less than ideal weather using Runway 8. To aid pilots in locating the airport on approach, the Federal Aviation Administration installed an approach lighting system in 1960.

However, that approach lighting needed upgrading and Urban delivered.

The new system provides reliable approach lighting, improves safety for aircraft on final approach by adding an additional 1,000 feet of lights, reduces approach lights flashing into homes, and improves the aesthetic appearance of the neighborhood.

Open to all firms privately practicing consulting engineering in Pennsylvania, Diamond Awards aim to recognize the outstanding contributions of Pennsylvania consulting engineering firms for enhancing the social and economic welfare of the Commonwealth and its citizens.
